Where Acrobat is the better choice

  • Quality-preserving optimisation. On desktop, PDF Optimizer gives control over images, fonts and other content, with an audit of what takes space. For complex documents this can keep more of the document intact than a phone app.
  • Everything else you do with PDFs. Editing, OCR, forms, signing and review.
  • Large files. Adobe’s online tool states support for files up to 2 GB.
  • Enterprise assurances and a long track record.

Where PDFTuck works differently

  • Free compression on Android, no subscription. Ads instead.
  • A typed limit. You enter 200 KB or 2 MB; PDFTuck measures the result and tells you whether it fits.
  • No upload. The PDF is compressed on the phone and works offline.

Things to know about PDFTuck

PDFTuck reduces size mainly by reducing images. To meet a small target, pages may be turned into images, so searchable text, links and form fields may not be kept, and digital signatures are not valid in the copy. Password-protected PDFs aren’t supported.

Which should you use?

If you already pay for Acrobat, or you need the best possible optimisation on a computer, use Acrobat. If you need a PDF under a portal’s limit on an Android phone, for free and without uploading it, PDFTuck does that one job.
