Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, including the ones that are “no”.
Getting PDFTuck
Is PDFTuck free?
Yes. It is free and shows ads. There are no in-app purchases, no subscription and no account.
Where can I get it?
PDFTuck is in closed testing and is not yet publicly listed on Google Play. You can email us to ask about joining the test. This page will link to Google Play once the app is public.
Which phones does it run on?
Android phones with Android 7.0 or newer. There is no iPhone version available.
Which languages does the app support?
English and Turkish. It also follows your phone’s light or dark theme, or you can choose one.
Target sizes and results
Will it always reach my target?
No tool can promise that for every PDF. PDFTuck reports success only when the measured file is at or under your limit. When it can’t get there while keeping pages readable, it says “Best readable result” and lets you use that file or try stronger compression.
Which target sizes can I choose?
Presets for 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB, 5 MB and 10 MB, or any custom value in KB or MB. You can also skip the target and choose High quality, Balanced or Smallest file.
Why is my compressed file much smaller than the limit?
PDFTuck keeps the best-looking result that fits. Some PDFs compress so well that even its highest-quality setting lands far below the limit.
Why did my PDF hardly shrink?
Compression mainly reduces images. A PDF that is mostly text, or one that was already compressed, has little left to remove.
Does PDFTuck count 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?
1,000 bytes, and 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes. If a portal uses 1,024, its limit is slightly larger, so typing the portal’s number is safe either way.
Will my text still be searchable?
Not always. Depending on the document, PDFTuck may turn pages into images to reach the target. Then text is no longer searchable or copyable, and links, form fields and digital signatures are not kept. Keep the original if you need those.
Privacy and connectivity
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is compressed on your phone. It is not sent to PDFTuck or to any compression server.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Selecting, compressing, previewing and saving a PDF work without a connection. Ads and consent messages need one.
What data do the ads collect?
PDFTuck uses Google AdMob and Google’s consent tool. Google may collect advertising data such as device identifiers and app interactions, as described in the app’s privacy policy. PDFTuck does not pass your PDF, its name, your target size or the result to Google.
When are ads shown?
A banner on the start screen, and now and then a full-screen ad when you tap “Compress another”. Never during compression, and not for your first two compressions.
Does PDFTuck change my original file?
No. It writes a new file and never overwrites the PDF you picked.
Files it can’t handle
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Not if it needs a password to open. Remove the password first with a tool you trust, then compress the copy.
Can it merge, split, edit or convert PDFs?
No. PDFTuck only compresses. For other tasks, a full PDF suite is the better tool.
Can I compress several files at once?
No, one PDF at a time.
